Electric Shades of Blue

Electric Shades Of Blue are taking the Pacific Northwest by storm. With the heart and soul of the bands that have influenced them, such as Free Cream, Led Zeppelin, Howlin’ Wolf and John Lee Hooker, ESB has captured the essence of rock and blues. Fans of all ages are enthusiastically embracing ESB as the next band to hit the charts. With interest from major labels the band is building a solid fan base.

Kurtis Dengler 16 (singer, songwriter and lead guitar), Lars Henrickson 15 (drums) and Ben Strom 15 (bass) from Lopez Island, WA. and Jacob Lundgren 16 (guitar) of Bellingham, WA. are the founding members of ESB.

“Blues and Rock had a baby and that’s what we play” says the bands frontman Kurtis D.

Their music was recently featured on 92.9 KISM Locals Only returning for a second show by popular demand. In 2005 the band performed at The MT Baker Blues Festival, The Darrington Rock Festival and Napavine Amphitheater, sharing the stage with rock and blues greats such as, Ted Nugent, Dave Hole, Eric Sardinas, Incognito, David Lindley, The Fix, Rick Derringer, Brett Michaels and Howard Leese from Heart who describes Kurtis as “A New Young Gun….The Soul Man.”

ESB recently signed with veteran manager Chris Crawford who states “These guy’s are my favorite band… next to long time friend and client Paul Rodgers of Bad Company and currently fronting Queen + Paul Rodgers.”

The band’s self titled CD which was released locally in July will take you on a tasty, soulful, journey laced with a combination of riffs, backbeats and filled with a lot of heart and soul.

TERRY SLESSER

 Website Launched

a.k.a Terry Wilson-Slesser. A world class vocalist from the N.E of England who started his career in the clubs and pubs of Newcastle on Tyne and surrounding area.

Spotted by top promoter Geoff Docherty, Terry, and his band at the time Beckett, were asked by Ricky Barnes to play at the Top Ten Club in Hamburg where they played 8 sets a night for a 15 day stint - a feat which they repeated weeks later. It was these Hamburg gigs that made the band so tight, that lead to a deal with W.E.A records: Ricky Barnes' stories of THE BEATLES and their time at the Star Club and the Top Ten were fascinating to the young Sless - an album produced by Roger Chapman - and one of Noel Edmonds' favourite singles ‘Little Girl' was released.

Major tours with Slade, Rod Stewart & Faces, Capt BeefHeart, Wizzard, 'Free' and The Sensational Alex Harvey Band - with whom Terry guested at Reading Festival 1974 (courtesy of the magnificent Jack Barry from the Marquee club where Sless made countless appearances with various luminaries i.e. Crawler, Huey Lewis & Phil Lynott)

Listen Live

Queen + Paul RodgersWhile there is no denying that both the CD and DVD of Queen + Paul Rodgers "Return of the Champions" is spectacular to hear and to watch, there can be no comparison to witnessing this tour de force in person. Now, you have the limited opportunity to do exactly that. It's a chance to be there to see Rock history first hand, an evening to file in your memory bank for immediate recall any time you choose. We at ROCKLINE strongly suggest you have tickets in hand well before they head your way. The extravaganza begins March 3rd in Miami, FL and steamrolls its way into twenty-three carefully selected, and highly fortunate, North American cities. Allow us to make the acquisition of tickets easy for you. Simply log on at QueenPlusPaulRodgers.com and click on tour dates. You can take it from there.

We feel very fortunate that the Champions are returning to our show to chat with you directly, and fill the air with some of the best music ever created and performed. The last time the gentlemen (and kick ass Rockers) joined us many months ago they had but two certain concert dates, one each in the New York City and Los Angeles areas. With nearly two dozen concerts planned things have certainly changed, much as the set list has compared to the CD and DVD recorded in Sheffield, England last year. Let's face it; there are simply too many good songs available from these Rock superstars to not shake things up a bit. This is a fact good for us and, no doubt, stimulating for the band as well. Fortunately, with Queen and Paul Rodgers there is a vast repertoire from which to choose and many of their songs are transcendent and have become full blown anthems. Each upcoming show promises to be a night to remember. Ask anyone who saw them in New York or L.A.

If you missed your chance to speak with Brian May, Roger Taylor and Paul Rodgers last time, here comes another one. But, as with this historical tour itself, it could be your last chance, at least with this dynamic pairing. DON'T MISS THE SHOW!!! Queen + Paul Rodgers live in concert and their appearance on ROCKLINE!

Simon returns from Fantasy Camp

Update from Simon Kirke.

Hi everybody...

I just returned from the Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp. It was very satisfying but very tiring. I had to whip a band of 8 musicians (five of which were guitarists!) into a reasonable rock band in just 4 days. There were roughly 120 campers divided into 12 bands. Roger Daltrey was on hand once again as were Cheap Trick, Lisa Loeb, Tommy Shaw from Styx and Neal Schon the guitar whiz from Journey. Each band had to lear a classic rock song as well as a Who song for a battle of the bands at the House of Blues in Hollywood . My band-which I dubbed "Leap of Faith"- did Movin On and Join Together in the Band...and we came in 2nd . I was elated to see the faces of my band as they had worked so hard to get it right. We must have done each song a hundered times but the work paid off. Joaquin Phoenix made a suprise visit and we wished him well at the Oscars next month.
If anyone was at the gigs at the Bein Inn send in a review...tell me what you thought. I had a ball by the way. Cant wait to go back there again.

Best to everyone: Simon.

Lies Tell the Best Truth of All
It's a Long Way Home

Music fans should need no introduction to Frankie Miller the man described by Rod Stewart as, “the greatest white singer ever”, but for the uninitiated, here’s a brief synopsis. Frankie recorded nine chart albums for the Chrysalis and Mercury labels between 1972 - 1986 which yielded between them the hit singles, Be Good To Yourself and Darlin’. He is one of the legends of the British music scene, with a powerful voice that has drawn numerous comparisons. His distinctive voice and song writing ability have earned him the respect of his peers and that is reflected in the number of world renowned artists, including Rod Stewart, Joe Cocker, Etta James, Cher, The Everly Brothers, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings and Ray Charles, who have covered his songs.

Here at long last, is an album of previously unreleased material recorded in the 1990‘s. The album showcases Frankie’s legendary vocal talents as well as focusing on Frankie the songwriter. One number, You’re The Star has already been a 1995 hit single for Rod Stewart. The album features appearances from, amongst others, The Eagles’ Joe Walsh, Nicky Hopkins of The Jeff Beck Group and Ian Wallace (King Crimson / Bob Dylan), who alongside Chrissie Stewart made up the band Fire And Brimstone. The numbers included here from this line up include the much sought after Guilty Of The Crime. Co-writers on the album include Will Jennings (Eric Clapton / Celine Dion) and Jerry Lynn Williams (Eric Clapton). Frankie the interpreter is highlighted on the album’s two cover versions, The Rose the song made famous by Bette Midler in the film of the same name and He’ll Have To Go previously immortalised by country legend Jim Reeves.

The album cuts a path from acoustic ballads to out and out rockers via country and soul tinged tracks, encapsulating Frankie‘s wide variety of musical styles.

From Bridgeton Scotland via international success across America and Europe it’s been A Long Way Home.

The-Volts were born out of a lack of great new, young, Guitar Riff driven classic Brit Rock bands. I spoke with Ben, a great drummer, who he had been working with alongside Roger Daltry and Alice Cooper, about the idea of putting together a band of potential iconic musicians in that circa 72 classic period of bands like Free, The Who, Cream and Floyd etc. We found a great young singer who had a voice like a young Paul Rodgers, a young guitarist who had been working with Paul McCartney and a bass player who had a feel like a young Andy Fraser, and The-Volts were born. Andy Fraser (Who was the original bass player in Free) very kindly, after contacting him via email, offered to lend his ears and opinions to the demos we were cutting, and is really loving the project. He said to me in all his years as a great player and classic songwriter, he had never been asked to act as a critique and that this opportunity was very exciting for him. For fifteen years now in the UK I have been running a session agency representing over 4000 of the very best young musicians in the country and I have worked and put live bands together for artists like Elton John, Sting, George Michael, and many others, and let me tell you, The-Volts, kick real Ass!! Between them the young 4 guys who range from 22-26 years old have worked with Paul McCartney, Mark Anthony, Craig David, Rushmore, Roger Daltry, Alice Cooper, Pete Townshend, Lisa Stansfield, Dido, Jewel, Kelly Clarkson, Artful Dodger and Allsaints. They have been in the studio for the past few months, and the first batch of demos are now ready, we have already had interest from Sony Playstation, Radio 1, and several large booking agencies, which is a great early start for us.

Message from Simon

 Hi everyone

Well it's 7 am in Glasgow airport and I just had to update you on my 3 nights at the Bein Inn in Scotland.

It was wonderful.. the audience were respectfully quiet during the songs but went quietly nuts
with their applause after each one.
I felt I had become a seasoned performer by the end of the 3rd night.
As well as Free and Badco song's I did alot of my own including a couple from my Seven Rays of Hope CD.
The show came in at around 2 hours which a few years ago had you told me that I would have laughed.
Larry Oakes was amazing...he managed to do the whole solo from Allright Now on his acoustic guitar.
and his piano intro on Bad Company was an aural wonder...

I hope to play with him for a long time to come.
People were saying afterwards that it sounded like a full band up there.
They want me back there for 4 or 5 nights in the summer...I love it..
..I filmed the second night for my own use but if it turns out well perhaps I will let others have it.

Peace to everyone..

Simon

“My favourite vocalist” (Bob Seger)

Music fans should need no introduction to Frankie Miller, the man described by Rod Stewart as, “the greatest white singer ever”, but for the uninitiated, here’s a brief synopsis:

Frankie recorded nine chart albums for the Chrysalis and Mercury labels between 1972 - 1986 which yielded between them the hit singles, ‘Be Good To Yourself’ and ‘Darlin’ ‘. He is one of the legends of the British music scene, with a powerful voice that has drawn numerous comparisons. His distinctive voice and song writing ability have earned him the respect of his peers and that is reflected in the number of world renowned artists, including Rod Stewart, Joe Cocker, Etta James, Cher, The Bellamy Brothers, Johnny Cash, Delbert McClinton, Bob Seger and Ray Charles, who have covered his songs.

The album cuts a path from acoustic ballads to out and out rockers via country and soul tinged tracks, encapsulating Frankie‘s wide variety of musical styles.

Here at long last, is an album of previously unreleased material recorded in the 1990‘s. The album showcases Frankie’s legendary vocal talents as well as focusing on Frankie the songwriter.  ‘You’re The Star’,  was a 1995 hit single for Rod Stewart and 'Over The Line' was recorded by The Bellamy Brothers, co-written by Will Jennings (‘Theme From Titanic’, ‘Tears In Heaven’, The Crusaders), plus three more unreleased songs from this collaboration.

The album features appearances from, amongst others, Joe Walsh (The Eagles), Nicky Hopkins of The Jeff Beck Group and the Rolling Stones and Ian Wallace (King Crimson / Bob Dylan), who alongside Chrissie Stewart, made up the band Fire And Brimstone. The numbers included here from this line-up include the much sought after ‘Guilty Of The Crime’.

Frankie the interpreter is highlighted on the album’s two cover versions, He’ll Have To Go previously immortalised by country legend Jim Reeves. ‘The Rose’ is the song made famous by Bette Midler in the film of the same name. Sadly Frankie suffered a brain haemorrhage which has left him without speech hence Fire and Brimstone had to disband.

From Bridgeton Scotland via international success across America and Europe it’s been ‘A Long Way Home’.

Track by Track details -

1. Guilty Of The Crime
Rocker (think prime time, blues-period  Whitesnake / ‘Rockin' All Over The World’- era Status Quo. Recorded by Fire And Brimstone - Frankie Miller - Vocals, Joe Walsh (The Eagles), Nicky Hopkins (Jeff Beck Group / Rolling Stones); Chrissie Stewart (Full House) and Ian Wallace (King Crimson / Bob Dylan). Produced by Bill Szymczyk (The Eagles). Can you feel your mouth start to salivate? And Yes, it really does sound that good. All these guys playing at the top of their game and making it sound so easy.

2. Win, Lose Or Draw
Mid tempo Countryish tinge co-written by Will Jennings (‘Tears In Heaven’ ,’Theme From Titanic’, ‘Up Where We Belong’ ).

3. You Always Saw The Blue Skies
Somewhere between a ballad and mid tempo, again with a country feel, mandolins and banjos abound, another Will Jennings co-write.

4. Lovin's Too Easy
A beautiful ballad, co-written by Bob Young of Status Quo fame, featuring Joe Walsh on slide guitar. Hammond organ and mandolins set the mood. Would not be out of place on a country album .

5. He'll Have To Go.
Slow blues based groover, Fire And Brimstone line up on a version of the old Jim Reeves standard that'll reduce you to tears.

6. You're The Star
Already a hit single for Rod Stewart in 1995, big, big ballad co-written with Graham Lyle (Gallagher & Lyle) and Billy Livsey.

7. Over The Line
Another slide guitar driven rocker, perfect driving music. Co-written with Will Jennings.

8. The Rose
Stripped down, just Frankie's voice (did we say just Frankie's voice) and an acoustic guitar. As made famous by Bette Midler in the film of the same name.

9. Baton Rouge
Slow paced number which just flows over you like a gentle stream. Co-written with Scott English.

10. Lies Tell The Best Truth Of All
Yeehaw !!! Country and Western number with lyrics somewhere between Bob Dylan and Squeeze's ‘Labelled With Love’. This is one of the real growers on the album.

11. It's A Long Way Home
The BIG ballad on the album. This has classic written all over it, close your eyes and you can see the stadium full of lighters held aloft. Listen closely, you can hear Frankie's voice crack with emotion. Another Will Jennings co-write.

Bad Company going Gold!

 News from Audio Fidelty

The one and only

Bad Company

“Bad Company”

Street Date:                February 14, 2006

 THE 8 MONTH DEAL

That is right. That is all the time we have to sell Bad Company’s historic album, “Bad Company” on
the 24K+ format.  We have until September of this year and then no more Bad Company on 24K+.
Due to contractual restrictions, we only have the 8 months to sell this album.
We originally contracted for the album almost 2 years ago but it has taken us over
a year to find the original master tapes.  Without a doubt, this is one of the most
anticipated albums on this format in a long time.
Since we made the announcement Audio Fidelity was releasing Bad Company in the 24K+ format
our phones have been ringing and the e-mails have constant from people who want to know
when this album is going to be available.  Call me CRAZY for making this deal but the
demand and the interest has convinced me the short period of time that we have to
sell this album will only make the album a must have for consumers.
All the hits are here “Can’t Get Enough”, “Rock Steady”, “Ready For Love”,
“Bad Company” and more.
This is the album that broke Bad Company and made Paul Rodgers an international superstar.
8 MONTHS is all we have so do not miss out!

The Magic Numbers

The Magic Numbers
The lead singer of The Magic Numbers, Romeo, had a rather hectic childhood having been born in Trinidad before moving to New York then London. It was in this third and final location that he formed band The Magic Numbers beginning with drummer Sean.

Teaming up with their sisters Michele and Angela the outfit was complete and eventually they were signed to Heavenly Recording. In 2005 The Magic Numbers released their self titled debut album featuring single “Forever Lost”.

Kevin and Lucy-

Kevin Neal - Drums

A Florida native, Kevin's music career as a steady income earningprofessional began in his early teens. He began touring the country with a "show" band at the age of fourteen with a school tutor in tow.

The day after his fifteenth birthday the group was booked as the house
band at the Aladdin Casino in Las Vegas. After leaving that group in pursuit of something more rock oriented, he joined "Kimberly Springs" who are the children of Grammy award winners "The Kimberley's. The band was signed to Capitol records and had two singles that charted fairly well. After four years of heavy touring, Kevin was still not playing in a setting in which he could not only play the drums but beat the hell out of them!

Returning to Florida after being based in the west for eight years, Kevin was in search of the most driving, hard rocking band he could find. This came true with the group "Nova Rex." While touring with this Canadian rock monster, they recorded the CD Turn It Up Loud. He was offered the gig for the highly successful band "Eli" which were heavy in the show aspect of rock. He eventually left Eli to join "Circus." This was a Florida supergroup that packed every show and won many awards for their self titled release. Although very happy with the progress of "Circus," the opportunity to play with Damon Johnson in a project with major backing won him over. The result was the group "Chyld" (later changed the name to "Brother Cane"). This band signed with Virgin records in 1990.

The record label pulled the band off the road for far to long for Kevin's taste and he was offered the gig with the legendary "Pat Travers Band." Being a huge fan of Travers' music and knowing that this would instantly put him on a national level, he signed up. The fact that Peter "Mars" Cowling was on bass and Jerry Riggs rounded out that lineup made the band a force to be reckoned with. While recording Just A Touch with Pat Travers, Mike Varney informed Pat that Leslie West was set to record but kept kicking drummers out the door.. Kevin went to the studio and had the gig in less than a minute of playing time. "It was one of the very best experiences of my career so far." said Kevin, "Les was looking for a deep pocket hard hitter and that's my style". Steve Hunter (Peter Gabriel, David Lee Roth, etc.) played on the record (Dodgin' The Dirt) as well.

Since then Kevin has toured and recorded with some of the very best this business has to offer including Rick Derringer, Howard Leese,  Mark Andes of "Heart", Jeff Carlisi from "38 Special", Zakk Wylde, Gary Hoey and southern rockers "The Outlaws" among others. Kevin joined former "Bad Company" singer Brian Howe's band and toured many exotic parts of the world. As well as being in the same group with his long time friends and great players Dean Aicher (guitar) and Miguel Gonzales (bass), the nonstop touring for over two decades started to take its toll. While still with Brian Howe, Kevin met drummer extraordinaire Mark Schulman who was with Foreigner at that time. Kevin says of Mark: "Mark has been a great source of inspiration and a great friend who has helped me in many areas."  Kevin took six months off (fortunately before suffering complete burnout) -- the rest once again lit the fire that burns in the souls of "lifer" musicians. Recently, Kevin received a call from Mark Schulman informing Kevin of the Lou Gramm Tour drumming position and now, the next chapter begins. Kevin says: "It is a complete honor to play with Lou and his band and I look very forward to the tour! This band is going to floor people!!"
