Queen and Paul Rodgers rock Dubai !!!

Legendary rockers Queen and Paul Rodgers, the former Free and Bad Company singer/songwriter, stamped their own mark on a quintessential evening of classic rock music at Dubai Festival City on Friday. The group performed classics such as We Will Rock You, Tie Your Mother Down, Bohemian Rhapsody, All Right Now, I Want It All, Bad Company and their latest hit C-lebrity.
Fans were thrilled as the rock artists raised the roof with their energy-charged performance at a packed Dubai Festival City. The trio hit the stage, launching into Hammer Will Fall before covering the hits fans wanted to hear — Fat Bottomed Girls, Another One Bites The Dust, I Want It All and I Want to Break Free.
Rogers teamed up with Queen's guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor to launch an exhaustive European Tour, which also took place in Dubai.Queen was formed in 1970 in London by guitarist Brian May, lead vocalist Freddie Mercury and drummer Roger Taylor. Bassist John Deacon joined the team a year later.
The artists are known for vocal harmonies and audience participation in their live performance.
Following Mercury's death in 1991 and Deacon's retirement in 1997, May and Taylor have performed infrequently under the Queen name.
The two artists have also been collaborating with Paul Rodgers since 2005 for performances around the world.
Queen's hit single Bohemian Rhapsody, was number one in the United Kingdom for nine weeks, and is Britain's third best selling single of all time.

Get Vegas
Get Vegas - Middlesbrough, UK

Music:
Lyin Dreams

“The most promising band of 2008! GET VEGAS leave heavy grooves and vibes, much like the band FREE did in the late 60s, with songs in your mind and soul, not easily erased. That's for sure!”
All Right Now, Official Free and Official Bad Company websites

Few young bands have embraced classic rock as fully as Get Vegas. This band are a godsend for rock fans who are tired of hearing the same old crap that is currently bombarding the airwaves. Get Vegas are real rock and roll. Rock music that is filled with immense warmth and passion. Dripping with a fierceness of a band that is laying it all on the line. These guys are very, very, damn good”
All Access Magazine

It’s not very often that a band comes along with a sound and energy like this; the last being the late 60’s when a young band called Free arrived, followed a few years later by the legendary Bad Company.

Thirty-five years or so later and here are Get Vegas, a young band influenced heavily by the late 60’s and early 70’s British blues boom yet adding a modern day twist to the sound, making rock sound as fresh and alive as it did back then while taking and developing the sound into the 21st century

Since their debut in August 2006, Get Vegas have rapidly built up a huge following, helped along by having tracks placed on the All Right Now website – the official website of rock legends Free and Bad Company

The band also received the distinction of winning the 2006 Insangel Enigma Battle of the Bands followed in 2007 by winning the Red Bull Sponsored Battle of the Bands.

August 2007 saw the band play Main Stage at the Bulldog Festival (Europe’s’ biggest bike festival) along side bands such as Status Quo and the Damned.

September saw the band record their debut 4 track EP containing tracks: “Burning Soul”, “Lying Dreams”, “Nobody Else” and “Love Hound”

In January 2008 the track “Lying Dreams” featured on the Classic Rock cover CD - “Bands You Need To Hear In 2008”. It has generated an amazing reaction from fans and the media with consequent radio plays and press in Europe and the US and a stream of fans desperate to get hold of more material.

Letters followed in the February edition of Classic Rock raving about the track “Lying Dreams” and a full-page feature went out in the March issue.

The band was invited out to Sweden in April for 2 x gigs in Stockholm. Their 4-track demo was picked up by national radio station Rock Klassiker who began playing the track. The band featured live on the morning drive-time show hosted by Ian Haugland (Europe) and played 2 x acoustic tracks plus. Both concerts sold out.

The band featured in Guitarist Magazine in April in the Modern Vintage feature.

May 08 sees the band on tour with the legendary Bad Company 2008 followed by a return visit to Sweden in June and then back to the UK for more dates.

Get Vegas are:

Vocals: Jonny Cole, age 20
Influences: Steve Marriott, Paul Rogers, Rod Stewart, Tom Waits, Jason Mraz, Nizlopi and John Mayer

Guitar: Ric Gingell, age 18

Press & Radio Quotes / Reviews

“There’s a soulful purity to Jonny Cole’s vocals that is very Paul Rogers, and with the focused groove of 18-year-old guitarist Gingell it all ads up to something that’s going somewhere special, and we want to follow”
Guitarist Magazine

“…we never received this many raving emails after having a new unknown band in the studio. It seems like everybody just loves the lads.”
Ian Haugland (Rock Klassiker, Sweden)

“The sound of Classic Rock is coming back and it’s almost better than the original Classic Rock. Get Vegas really have a lot going on and you’re going to hear more about it as it progresses. I’m calling it the New-Wave of British Classic Rock…lets see if that catches on.”
Adam Hartmann (Bottom40 Rock Show Jacksonville, Florida)

Get Vegas are a tasty little treat from Middlesbrough, England. As we’ve said before, never underestimate an EP – sometimes four songs is enough. Like American Minor, these well-toned and highly skilled Brits are out to strut their influences and maybe land a few fans of their own along the way. No debut, Get Vegas are listening to their Dad’s Humble Pie/Free/Bad Company collection. The riffs are incredibly well structured – frantic yet subtle, catchy but not overdone. “Sweet Honey” exposes us to Ric Gingell’s Allman Bros guitar tone with Martin Saint’s heavy footing the bass drum. Jonny Cole’s soulful voice sounds much older than its 19-years breathing maturity and emotion into the hook-filled lyrics. By the time the laser gets to the Bad Company-inspired “Burning Soul” the whole stereo is rocking’ at full volume. Textured guitar rides the funky groove laid down by Adam Laing, who is certainly a protégé of Andy Fraser’s strutting bass walk. “What Did Your Mama Tell You” is nuts-and-bolt Free set in a mid-tempo swamp and boasting a mammoth signature riff. The song comes complete with bass solos between verses and a churning, breathtaking solo. Not a band to sit too comfortably in the past, they quickly bring their sound up to date with full-throttle hard rock and a cracking production. Check out “Gypsy Lane” (on their myspace page) for proof. Seeped in the blues with a distorted - almost stoner element, the track lumbers along keeping pace with a gruff ZZ Top/Savoy Brown lick. For kids under twenty playing old school rock this good…dude, four songs is enough.
Todd Smith (The Cutting Edge)

“A performance rarely seen from a band so young! An amazing live band with style, charisma and professionalism. Get Vegas are definitely a band to watch out for.”
Orchid Promotions

"These guys drip attitude like sweat and can pin you to the ground with guitars sounding like Hendrix being played by Jimmy Page."
Ten Feet Tall Promotions

“These are four guys who barely look old enough to be allowed into the venue never mind play its stage, but who deliver Rock ‘n’ Roll with all the energy of youth. The band really impressed me once again and with Jonny Cole they have found a gold mine in his vocal talent.”
Mayfair Mallzine

“You need to think: Cream, Deep Purple, The Datsuns, Free, Kings of Leon, Led Zeppelin, Reef, Thin Lizzy, to get this pure rock sound guys, a rarity in this day and age.”

A Poem for Paul Kossoff by Paul Reed

Leaves in the Wind (Tribute to Kossoff)

I read that Jimi was your hero

You searched in vain to emulate

All the time supremely unaware

It was you that was really great

Ever searching for a ‘sound’ like his

When there was no need at all

Instead, unknowing, your fingers touched

My soul with vibrato squall

‘Trouble on Double Time’ and ‘Woman’,

‘Mr Big’ and ‘Mouthful of Grass’

That big hole in the ground that you wanted to dig

Grew deeper as I watched the time pass

I still listen with adolescent shiver

To the piercing cry of sunburst Les Paul

I still walk in your shadow

From the garbage cans of the back street crawl

The unreachable high that you craved for

Carried with it too high a price

The heroin stream in your veins

Always the last throw of the dice

Much too soon you took that final flight

With wings that could no longer fly

With ‘Tons of Sobs’ you left me

No forgiving or word of goodbye

The last verse never to be played

A curtain that can never descend

Fretboard growing dusty and shabby

Wishes I can no longer extend

Perhaps you can still hear me play you

Through strings that know more than just sound

Heavy heart muffled but still beating

As that last flight touched the ground

Paul Reed
